Aluminum alloys are very useful in many industrial applications due to their resistance to corrosion, low density, and high strength-to-weight ratio. They may be endowed with an astonishing variety of characteristics. The tribological properties of alloyed aluminum are enhanced by the addition of other elements to the metal. In this investigation, zirconium is used to strengthen aluminum at varying weight percentages. Through the casting procedure, three distinct specimens were created using variable amounts of Zirconium; one each was pin-shaped and coin-shaped. As reinforcement, ZrO 2 was used in proportions of 5, 10, 15, and 20%. The composites underwent density testing and microstructure examinations via optical along with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after production was finished. This study also aimed to ascertain the fabricated composites’ mechanical properties. This was accomplished by measuring hardness, testing cross-breaking strength, and subjecting the material to abrasive wear. The manufactured samples were subjected to wear and hardness testing via a pin-on-disc tribometer with a Brinell hardness tester. Zirconium enhances wear resistance and decreases hardness in specimens with a greater zirconium content, according to optical emission spectroscopy, which reveals a rise in zirconium composition in various specimens. With different Zirconia compositions, the specific wear rate tended to decrease from 0.22 to 0.15. This article summarizes recent studies on hybrid composites that include graphite and zinc carbide reinforcements, as well as zinc and aluminum alloys. More and more, lightweight and wear-resistant metal matrix composites (MMCs) constructed from the Aluminum matrix are finding their way into a variety of applications. Hybrid AMCs, which consist of an aluminum matrix and several reinforcing elements, are replacing single-reinforced composites in many applications due to their superior mechanical and tribological characteristics. Hybrid composites outperform pure alloys in several respects, including tensile strength, wear resistance, hardness, as well as coefficient of friction.
