A mild strain of infectious laryngotracheitis virus suitable for ocular vaccination is described. The minimum ocular dose for 100% immune response was determined to be between 104.o and 105.o0 EIDs5/ml. Some evidence of protective response was detected as early as 2 days postvaccination, and protection was complete at 6 days. The minimum bird age for satisfactory immune response was 16 days. Contact spread of the vaccine was present without any detrimental effects. Resistance to intrasinus challenge lasted 15 to 20 weeks. Field trials with the ocular vaccine gave excellent results.
