Because Laspeyresia pomonella (L.) does not occur in Japan, it was necessary to develop a treatment which would guarantee that no live codling moth would be present in any shipments of cherries from the United States to Japan, Fumigation with 32 g/m3 methyl bromide for 2 h at 24°C resulted in complete kill of larvae of L. pomonella in harvested sweet cherries with no significant effects on quality or taste of the treated fruits.
