Here, a star-like Be 7 Au 6 cluster with a planar hexacoordinate beryllium center is reported. Unprecedentedly, it exhibits a strong electron over-delocalization, i.e. its peripheral bridging Au atoms are involved in the bonding of the central Be atom.
