1-Alkyl-3-benzyloxymethylimidazolium, 3-alkoxymethyl-1-benzylimidazolium, and 1-alkyl-3-(3-phenylpropoxymethyl)imidazolium chlorides were prepared in very good yields by nucleophilic attack of 1-substituted imidazole on chloromethylalkyl ethers. All the chlorides examined showed antifungal activity against Coniophora puteana (Schum. : Fr.) Karst., Trametes versicolor (L. : Fr.) Pilat and Chaetomium globosum (Kunze : Fr.). The effective dose ED 100 and the lethal dose LD, were measured by the malt-agar substrate method. The relationship between the chemical structure and antifungal activity was analysed by the QSAR method.
