A new, simple low-cost method is presented for real-time measurement of arbitrary vibrations using the shadow moire technique. It is shown, by comparing with holographic measurements, that amplitudes as small as 100 nm can be accurately measured. The new method provides easy calibration for many other vibration measurement techniques.
