This paper argues that external and internal changes affecting higher education require institutions, and the system as a whole to redefine missions, purposes and practice. Achieving significant change of this kind, however, requires leadership at many levels. The paper presents six dimensions of leadership which can contribute to the task of reinventing higher education.
