Infrared spectra of benzimidazole, a copper–benzimidazole complex in powder form, and a copper–benzimidazole complex which forms as a film on metallic copper are presented. The spectrum of the film on the metal exhibits peak absorbances similar to those of the copper–benzimidazole powder spectrum. It appears from relative peak heights that, in the film, the complex is preferentially oriented with the plane of the benzimidazole ring parallel to the metal surface.
