A symmetric eikonal model is developed to study the electron excitation of dielectronic atomic targets by impact of bare nuclei. An independent-electron approximation is used, where one of the electrons, the passive one, is assumed to remain frozen during the reaction. The influence of the passive electron on the trajectory followed by the projectile is determined in calculating the differential cross sections. Total cross sections are also computed and compared with available experimental data for the impact of different projectiles with He, Fe²⁴⁺, and Kr³⁴⁺ targets.
