This paper presents a short introduction to bat pollination (chiropterophily) with emphasis on the Neotropics. Adaptations of plants to the pollination by bats include robustness, specific strategies for advertisement, structures for efficient transmission of pollen and a comparably large nutritional reward. Adaptations of specialised flower–visiting bats improved their ability to find and to exploit flowers in a highly efficient way.
