Key result
Thoracoscopic atrial appendectomy terminates refractory atrial tachycardia and boosts LVEF to 60% in pediatric case.
Why the study?
Intractable atrial tachycardia arising from the left atrial appendage in a young child can be refractory to antiarrhythmic drugs and catheter ablation, requiring alternative treatment approaches.

May offer rescue option for refractory pediatric left atrial appendage tachycardia after failed ablation; leaves open need for prospective studies.
Case Report (n=1)
Does video-assisted thoracoscopic atrial appendectomy terminate intractable atrial tachycardia in a pediatric patient?
Minimally invasive thoracoscopic atrial appendectomy can successfully treat intractable focal atrial tachycardia originating from the atrial appendage in small children.
Kwon et al. (2019) conducted a case report in intractable atrial tachycardia and tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy (n=1). video-assisted thoracoscopic atrial appendectomy was evaluated. Video-assisted thoracoscopic atrial appendectomy successfully terminated intractable atrial tachycardia and improved left ventricular ejection fraction from 33% to 60% in a 4-year-old boy.
