In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the Vlasov–Maxwell equations with strong magnetic field. More precisely we investigate the Cauchy problems associated with strong initial magnetic fields. We justify the convergence towards the so-called guiding-center approximation when the dynamics is observed on a slower time scale than the plasma frequency. Our proofs rely on the modulated energy method.
