In most cases where a new function or component is introduced into a power system for a particular objective, it produces side effects. Some of these side effects are bad and compensation must be introduced to counteract them. Some of them are good, and in fact more important than the originally-conceived objective, and have themselves become the new main objective. Several examples are discussed.
