The difference in starch properties—glutinous and nonglutinous—was detected In the perisperm of dicotyledonous Amaranthus hypochondriacus L A total of 500 progenies of a single heterozygous plant were examined for the properties of perisperm starches. The results showed that starch properties in the peri-sperm of A. hypochondriacus are determined by a single major gene, with the glutinous allele recessive to the nonglutinous allele. The mode of Inheritance in the perisperm of A. hypochondriacus is similar to that recorded in the endosperm of Gramineae. The present study deals for the first time with the differentiation of glutinous and nonglutinous starch types in dicotytedons.
