A study is presented of the growth of sulphidecontaining corrosion products on antiquities in museums. Analysis of the corrosion products suggests that they are dependent on the mode of formation. Techniques for conservation have also been investigated and l-amido-l-cyanoethylene, 2,2-di(sodium thiolate) is recommended for dissolving the sulphide layers, while a treatment with benzotriazole followed by lacquering is recommended for long-term protection.
