The colonization of new rock surfaces was observed experimentally as well as the recolonization of artificially denuded rock surfaces.Although in both cases' the initial settlement of the larvae was successful there was a heavy mortality soon afterwards with .aconsequently slow rate of recolonization. This was attributed to environmental factors. It is seen that recolonizatioll of rocks after natural denudation is very much more rapid.Seasonal number growths of Porphyra Scytosiphon and Ulva are recorded.'
