A mathematical model was developed for the simulation of gas flow, combustion and heat convection in the vacuum chamber of RH‐KTB process at Baosteel. Under different conditions, the model was used to predict the influence of the top oxygen blowing lance on the gas flow; chemical reactions and temperature distribution were calculated. The optimum position of the lance is suggested for the RH‐KTB process.
