This study compares the density, age, growth and distribution of a population of Taricha granulosa with a population of neotenous Ambystoma gracile in a small lake in southwest British Columbia. T. granulosa had an average adult density of 300 per hectare and reached densities as high as 2700 per hectare near the edge of the lake. Eggs were laid in late June and early July. The average age was about 12 years and the growth in snout-pelvis length, which decreased with age, averaged 0.6 mm per year in females and 0.9 mm per year in males. The species was never found in the stomach of the main predator in the lake, rainbow trout. Individuals were found to home in water when released over 800 m from
