Comparative intensity measurements of C2 and C–2 molecular spectra have been made using a shock tube technique. From these measurements the absorption electronic oscillator strength of the C–2 Herzberg-Lagerqvist bands has been determined as 0.017 ± 0.008 at the (0,0) band origin.
