The principal thermal conductivities of LaF 3 have been measured between 1.2 and 80K. An analysis based on phonon anisotropic Umklapp scattering which assumed well-behaved phonon dispersion relations has revealed that the crystal does not possess hexagonal symmetry. The results are consistent with trigonal symmetry.
