Retrospective survey reveals high rates of upper and lower limb trauma in first-class cricketers, indicating a need for targeted injury-prevention strategies.
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the most common cricket injuries and to make recommendations in an attempt to reduce the number of injuries. The survey population consisted of 92 players who had played first class cricket during the 1987/88 season. One hundred and ninety-three serious and 73 less serious cricket injuries, which had occurred throughout these players' careers, were recorded. Twenty percent of the serious injuries were to the head, neck and face, 32% to the upper limbs, 18% to the back and trunk, and 30% to the lower limbs.
A 1989 study studied this question.
