The extraction of harmonics and reactive current components in a grid-interfaced photovoltaic (PV) system is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on a triangular function, which is useful in signal processing and provides harmonics and reactive current detection to estimate reference currents to control a grid-connected PV system. The proposed method is modeled and implemented in order to meet the grid requirements such as power quality improvement, distortion-free signals etc. The proposed technique for a three-phase grid-connected PV system is used to perform multiple functions including power quality improvement, extraction of maximum power from a given PV array, and feeding extracted solar PV power into the distribution system. Test results have vetted desirable performance of the proposed system.
