The performance and quality of many petroleum products is dependent upon the type and quantity of hydrocarbons present. A high pressure liquid chromatograph has been used to separate various fuels such as gasoline and jet fuel into saturated, monoaromatic, and diaromatic hydrocarbons. The separation time is less than 10 min. Other petroleum stocks such as cleaning solvent and straight-run distillate have been examined. The reliability of the separation was investigated with model compounds. Quantitative techniques were also examined.
