Techniques used to produce longitudinal differentiation in plant chromosomes have so far induced only C-bands. The present trypsin-Glemsa technique makes both C- and G-bands visible In Pinus resinosa chromosomes. Several hypotheses are discussed concerning the previous lack of reports of G-banded plant chromosomes. It is suggested that methodological changes in the preparation of chromosomes would allow G-band induction in other plant species.
