The healing of wounds is fundamental to all surgery. Without wound healing neither the organism or surgeons could exist. In recent years, an increased understanding of the biology of wound healing has led to advances which have clinical application and we shall concentrate on these advances in this chapter. However a brief review will first be given of the mechanisms of healing.
