The luminescence quenching reaction of fluoranthene by molecular oxygen on MCM‐41, a silicagel of uniform pore size, was studied at room temperature by time‐resolved and steady‐state fluorescence spectroscopy. The quenching reaction is well described by the Langmuir‐Hinshelwood‐(LH)‐model. By applying this model to the experimental results rate constants of the quenching reaction, equilibrium constants of oxygen adsorption, rate constants of oxygen desorption and heats of oxygen adsorption were derived.
