Spindle‐shaped silver nanoparticles were successfully prepared in high yield by a simple wet chemical approach using citric acid (CA) as reducant in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) at room temperature. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV‐vis absorption spectroscopy and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) have been used to characterize the obtained products. It is found that the spindle‐shaped architecture of siver nanoparticles is drastically influenced by the mass ratio of SDS to CA and the concentration of silver nitrate (AgNO3). It is revealed that SDS is not as a template but as a capping agent. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
