SUMMARY N-Methyltyramine, an indirectly acting sympathomimetic amine, produced insignificant effects in goats treated with reserpine and promazine. The amine depleted the norepinephrine content of rat heart and brain tissue. Monoamine oxidase (mao) activity in liver of rats decreased when the rats were fed a protein-free ration or were given N-methyl β-phenylethylamine. Vitamin B12 stimulated the metabolism of N-methyl β-phenylethylamine by ruminal microflora isolated from ruminants fed a semipurified ration.
