The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (TBSRTC) is used to classify thyroid nodules based on their fine-needle aspiration pathology report. Each Bethesda category is associated with an estimated risk of malignancy (ROM), which aids the patient in their decision-making process regarding excision of the nodule or observation. The accuracy of these ROMs are crucial in this process, which is why they are constantly being evaluated. In 2023, an update to TBSRTC was posted, highlighting new ROMs for every category. We previously compared our ROMs to the 2017 TBSRTC. With the 2023 update it is time to repeat that analysis. This retrospective study compares institutional ROM to TBSRTC's ROM for each category.
