The essential oils of Ocimum gratissimum were isolated from fresh aerial plant parts by steam distillation with yields from 0.2-0.9%. Analysis by GC and GC/MS identified 35 constituents, of which γ-terpinene (2.2-30.2%), p-cymene (13.5-37.1%) and thymol(2.3-32.1%) were the most abundant. Three samples were especially rich in p-cymene (38.2-47.1%), accompanied by γ-terpinene (2.2%) and myrcene (2.8%). Percentage of these compounds are included beetween 45-65%.
