The restricted distribution of the Yellow‐necked woodmouse (Apodemus flavicollis (Melchior)) in Britain is reviewed and compared with that of the widely distributed woodmouse (A sylvaticus (Linn.)). It appears that A. flavicollis occurs mostly in low‐lying woodland intermixed with arable land, although not all the data agree with this and the precise distribution pattern remains incompletely explained.
