Simulated group experience can provide the necessary link between theclassroom and actual group work practice. This paper describes the content and methodology of a social work course in which group leadership skills and process analysis are taught to undergraduates. Students participate as both members and leaders of structured and unstructured simulated groups, receiving instructor, peer, and video feedback. Videotapes are used extensively to provide material for discussion, immediate feedback on leadership skills or group process, and exposure to multiple approaches of group work. A role play test for evaluation purposes is also described.
