The nature and content of some words in the Qurʾānic narratives are clear, while some of them are closed. The efforts to explain and interpret the vague words called ambiguities/Mubhamāt al- Qurʾān started from the period of the Companions. One of the tafsīr that touches on the subject of mubhamāt is Ebū Manṣūr al-Mātürīdī’s (d. 333/944) Taʾvīlāt al-Qur’ān, which is accepted as one of the first examples of dirāyah tafsīr. In the research, it has been determined that Māturīdī first mentioned the controversial narrations on the subject of mubhamāt, and then made comments by drawing attention to the messages that are intended to be conveyed in the verses with an expression such as “We do not need to know this.” It has been found that Māturīdī interpreted the Qur’ān with a message-oriented approach by displaying such an approach in more than 75 places on 10 different subjects in Taʾvīlāt al-Qur’ān. Māturīdī’s understanding of message-oriented interpretation has been analyzed; with the presentation of 21 sample verses under the headings of; person and name, invisible being, place, time, measure, quantity and number, event and story, purpose, reason and wisdom, what happened, which of the two possibilities, knowledge of the essence and attribute.
