The effects of seven individual dispensable amino acids and betaine on feed ingestion by prawn, Penaeus japonicus, were compared with that of an amino acid mixture. The purified test diet reported previously was used as the basal diet. Addition of glycine to the diet significantly stimulated the feed intake, followed by the amino acid mixture, taurine, and serine in decreasing order, whereas aspartic acid, glutamic acid, proline, and betaine hardly enhanced the palatability of the diet at all.
