Three groups of two calves each were inoculated by the intravenous route with bacillary suspensions of M. africanum, M. bovis and M. tuberculosis respectively. The experimental virulence was evaluated on the basis of the macroscopic and microscopic lesions observed and of the cultures of mycobacteria obtained from different organs. The results showed M. africanum strain used in this experiment to be as virulent as M. bovis for bovines.
