The corrosion properties of AZ91 and its alloy with 0.33 wt.% strontium were investigated in a 200 ppm Cl − solution. The microstructures of the alloys were examined by X-ray diffraction and electron probe X-ray microanalysis. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of the alloys. AZ91 with 0.33 wt.% Sr addition showed better corrosion resistance than AZ91 due to the increase of second phases (Mg 2 Sr, Al 4 Sr, and AlSr compounds) at the grain boundary, refined grain size and more continuously dispersed β phase.
