Every time-depth curve studied so far in western Canada can be divided into at most a few segments, precisely represented by equations of the type t=azn+b. The particular values of a, b, and n that define each segment are of fundamental importance. Best values of these quantities have been determined by statistical methods at several places in the basin, and their areal variation is significant in terms of lithologic changes and basin position.
