Heat stress down-regulates ApoB100 expression, driving increased hepatic lipid accumulation in dairy cows.
Why the study?
The effects of hot season on gene expression and protein secretion of ApoB100 in transition dairy cows were not well understood.
Heat stress down-regulates ApoB100 expression in transition dairy cows, contributing to hepatic lipid accumulation.
May inform heat-stress management in transition dairy cows; leaves open translation to human cardiometabolic disease.
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of hot season on gene expression and protein secretion of ApoB100 in transition dairy cows. Hot season strongly down-regulated ApoB100 gene and protein expression. This condition and the higher circulating NEFA were responsible for the higher lipid accumulation in liver of heat-stressed transition cows.
