This presentation explores the potential benefits and practical challenges of implementing Research Activity Identifiers (RAiDs) in archaeology, using the Archaeological Information System of the Czech Republic (AIS CR) as a case study. AIS CR manages a complex ecosystem of archaeological projects, fieldwork events, datasets, documents and related entities, making RAiDs potentially valuable for linking research activities with other persistent identifiers such as DOIs, IGSNs, ORCIDs and RORs. At the same time, archaeology poses specific implementation challenges arising from extensive legacy data, heterogeneous actors and the regulatory context of cultural heritage. The presentation argues that broad adoption will require flexible identification of contributors and organisations, including support for repository-minted identifiers where standard identifiers such as ORCID or ROR cannot realistically be enforced.
