This article develops the concept of temporal coordination to analyze uneven development within East Asian capitalism. While existing scholarship emphasizes value-chain hierarchy, financial dependency, and spatial integration, comparatively less attention has been given to how economic resources are transformed into productive capability across different temporal horizons. Temporal coordination is defined as the alignment of short-term financial and policy adjustment with the longer-term processes through which productive capabilities are accumulated, reproduced, and progressively strengthened through operational coordination.Drawing on publicly available macroeconomic and sectoral data from Thailand, the study adopts a temporal configuration approach to examine adjustment patterns across financial conditions, macroeconomic policy, exports, investment, industrial production, and domestic demand. The empirical findings indicate that financial and policy domains adjust rapidly to global conditions, whereas investment and industrial production evolve more gradually and inconsistently. Economic recovery therefore proceeds through rotating growth drivers rather than sustained synchronization across major economic domains.Although aggregate macroeconomic indicators cannot directly observe capability formation, the persistent divergence across sectors is consistent with repeated interruptions in the transformation of economic recovery into productive capability. This pattern suggests that uneven development is associated not only with differentiated adjustment horizons but also with the continuity through which productive capability is reproduced and progressively strengthened over time. These findings further suggest that long-term development depends not only on the availability of resources or episodes of economic recovery, but also on the capacity of economic systems to repeatedly transform available resources into productive capability across successive adjustment cycles.Rather than replacing existing approaches to East Asian development, this article proposes temporal coordination as a complementary analytical perspective for understanding uneven development within hierarchically integrated regional production systems.
