Pharmacokinetic analysis involving the measurement of tissue distribution of drugs contributes to better understanding of the clearance and distribution mechanisms of drugs, drug–drug interaction mechanisms, and the pharmacogenomics of transporters, as well as of the efficacy of drugs designed to modulate transport activities. Transporter imaging study, which involves the noninvasive measurement of tissue distributions of drugs, is an evolving field. Focusing on clinical data, this article highlights the application of imaging studies in membrane transporters. Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (2013); 94 1, 33–36. doi:10.1038/clpt.2013.85
