The composition of essential oils obtained from Satureja horvatii subsp. macrophylla by hydrodistillation and micro-simultaneous distillation/extraction (SDE) were analyzed using GC and GC/MS for the first time. Thirty-nine constituents were found with percentage compositions >0.1% in both essential oils isolated. The major oil constituents were thymol (46.1–46.7%), p-cymene (14.3–15.5%) and γ-terpinene (7.1–8.2%). There were no major differences in the oil composition for constituents composing >0.8% between the two methods of oil isolation indicating that SDE is a suitable isolation procedure when small amounts of plant material are available.
