This paper presents the results of the study of the structure of samples manufactured using the selective laser melting (SLM) method of a powder of stainless austenitic chromium–nickel steel (Mn 1.3%; Si 0.7%; Cr 16.6%; Ni 10.6%; Mo 2.4%; Fe for balance). It has been shown that there are uniformly distributed spherical particles with an average size of 70 nm and large inclusions 10–50 microns in size in the steel. The revealed peculiarities of the structure of the stainless austenitic steel obtained using SLM technology are likely factors that can provide an increase in strength and a reduction of plasticity and impact toughness.
