The innovative Model for Nurse Career Success builds upon integrated disciplinary knowledge about nurse career success to deliver a longitudinal, evidence-informed and comprehensive answer to the question, “How can we make a difference in fostering nurse career success?” Earlier work (Yamada et al., 2024) focused on what nurse career success means and what influences it. This paper expands on their work, adding new findings on nurse career success and incorporating the science about self-care, nurse well-being and professional identity in nursing to more fully address identified individual and organizational factors. This framework is situated within a four-phase, multi-year trajectory that employs upstream action to impact downstream results and form the foundation for nurse career success.
