With mono- or divalent copper(II) complexes with coordinated phenoxyl groups (e.g. the complex cation 1 recently discribed by Wieghardt, Chaudhuri et al.) high catalytic activities were established in the enzyme-like oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes. These complexes thus serve as excellent functional model complexes for galactose oxidase and facilitate investigations into the reactivity of coordinated phenoxyl radicals.
