The symmetric eikonal model has been extended for electron ionisation in ion-atom collisions. An approximation to this model has been applied to describe double differential cross sections. Calculations for H + H(1s) to H + +H + +e - are compared with other present theoretical results obtained using the continuum-distorted-wave-eikonal-initial-state approximation. A qualitative comparison is made with experimental data for the H + +H 2 , collision system.
