Does betrixaban reduce stroke incidence in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation?
Betrixaban demonstrated efficacy in reducing stroke risk in real-world NVAF patients with an acceptable safety profile.

Supports betrixaban for lower stroke rates in NVAF cohorts; hypothesis-generating and requires RCTs before practice change.
Background: Nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) is a common cardiac arrhythmia associated with an increased risk of stroke.Anticoagulation therapy is essential for reducing stroke risk in NVAF patients.Betrixaban, a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC), has been evaluated for its efficacy and safety in preventing stroke, yet limited data exist regarding its use in real-world NVAF populations.Materials and methods: A total of 100 patients diagnosed with NVAF were included in the study.Patient demographics, stroke incidence, bleeding events, and survival rates were analyzed over a 1-year follow-up period. The mean age of patients was 68.4 years, with 52% male and 48% female. The primary outcome was stroke incidence, and secondary outcomes included bleeding events and overall survival.Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05.Results: The stroke incidence was 4% (n = 4), significantly lower than the historical stroke incidence of 8-10% among untreated NVAF patients (p < 0.05).Major bleeding events occurred in 3% of the patients, while 8% experienced minor bleeding.None of the bleeding events necessitated discontinuation of therapy. The overall survival rate at 1 year was 96%, and no deaths were attributed to stroke during the follow-up period. Conclusion: Betrixaban demonstrated efficacy in reducing stroke risk in NVAF patients while maintaining an acceptable safety profile with a low incidence of major bleeding. These findings support its use in real-world clinical settings, but further studies are warranted.

Sharma et al. (2025) conducted a cohort in Nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (n=100). Betrixaban vs. Historical untreated NVAF patients was evaluated on Stroke incidence (p=< 0.05). Betrixaban use in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation was associated with a 4% stroke incidence over 1 year, significantly lower than the historical 8-10% rate (p < 0.05).
