Sphere of influence: Various transition metal (Ru, Pd and V) particles supported on nitrogen-doped carbon nanospheres have been synthesized and their catalytic activity studied for the chemoselective hydrogenation of diketones, the oxidation of styrene, and CC bond formation (Heck and Suzuki) reactions. The catalysts show very high activity, selectivity, and recyclability in these reactions.
