This paper explores the development of sports heritage projects and initiatives in the UK and the growing realization of the value of sports heritage for tourism. Some examples of work in this field are cited before considering the opportunities presented by the 2012 London Olympics. The paper offers some preliminary ideas for sports heritage tourism projects for Britain's Cultural Olympiad and beyond and concludes with a proposal to create a British Trust for Sports Heritage.
