The original method of incompatible modes proposed by Wilson et al. (1973) is modified such that a constant strain and hence convergence of the method is ensured. The proposed modification is valid for other forms of incompatible modes besides the original suggestion. The least‐squares stress recovery, introduced herein, provides high accuracy in stress computations.
